Design Highlight: Symbols of Remembrance
This week’s Design Highlight is a yoga mat from our permanent collection, the Symbols of Remembrance yoga mat. This design is an abstract representation of the poppy, Papaver somniferum. Since ancient times, the poppy has been associated with sleep, peace and mourning. The watercolor elements of this design, along with the informal white line work together to create a perfect landscape for peace and restfulness. The color palette is both warm and cool, allowing the user to find comfort and connection in ways that serve them best. Our Symbols of Remembrance yoga mat has become a popular basis for memorialization...
Freebie Friday! 05.24.2019
This week’s Freebie Friday is a quote from American writer, poet and civil rights activist Maya Angelou. Her most famous work is almost certainly I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, her powerful and literate coming-of-age story that begins when she was sent to live with her grandmother at the age of 3 in rural Alabama and ends when she becomes a mother at the age of 16 in California. She was raped at the age of 8, her attacker spent only 1 day in jail, and he was murdered 4 days after his release (likely by Maya’s uncles). She then...
The Best Bridesmaid’s Gift!
I was cruising Pinterest recently and happened to notice there is not a lot of variety in what bridal couples can choose from when selecting gifts for their wedding party. Monogrammed robe? Um… that one has been done time and time and time again. While sweet, it’s probably safe to say it’s run its course. Matching necklace and earrings? A nice gesture — but jewelry to match one another isn’t the same as jewelry selected to say I care about you, right? A quick “personalized something” with free shipping from Amazon Prime? Oh boy. That solution screams, “I forgot and time...
We Love Georgia Denny!
This is the seventh in our ongoing series celebrating our happy customers. This week we’re profiling our other beautiful teenage daughter, Georgie Denny. Her sister, Hannah, is one of our highly talented yoga mat designers and manages a large chunk of our social media properties — we really are a family business! — and GG has been incredibly helpful in the business as well. For example, last weekend we were at the Ragnar Great Midwest Relay, a 200-mile race through Wisconsin, and she spent 3 days helping me pack, load, unload, set up, vend, and break down our booth numerous times in cold mud,...
Design Highlight: The Earth Laughs in Flowers
This week’s Design Highlight is my very own The Earth Laughs in Flowers yoga mat, whose title was taken from the poem Hamatreya by Ralph Waldo Emerson. The poem itself is…well, it’s a bit dark, being as it is about his Concord, New Hampshire neighbors who boast about their ownership of their beautiful farmland: …Earth laughs in flowers, to see her boastful boys Earth-proud, proud of the earth which is not theirs; Who steer the plough, but cannot steer their feet Clear of the grave… Like I said: dark. Nevertheless, I thought it was a beautiful title for this riotous...
