Well hey there, Craftonians! ✨
This week’s episode of Happy Time Craftcast felt especially cozy and inspiring in the very best way. Before sitting down with today’s guest, I was sharing all kinds of updates from the studio—new quilted apparel ideas, projects for the gift shop, and some exciting plans for interactive live-stream crafting experiences that I honestly cannot stop thinking about.
But the heart of this episode was my conversation with ceramic artist Elsa Stutzman, and friends… it was such a good reminder of why handmade things matter so much.
The vibe? Warm. Thoughtful. Creative in a deeply everyday kind of way.
Getting to Know Elsa
Elsa is a functional potter who creates handmade ceramics designed to be used, loved, and woven into daily life. Her philosophy around pottery is something I connected with immediately—this idea that art doesn’t have to sit on a shelf to matter. It can be held in your hands every morning with your coffee, passed around the dinner table, or become part of someone’s routine and memories.
She first discovered ceramics in college after taking a class for an arts credit, and like so many creative stories, one class quickly turned into complete love for the medium. After stepping away from pottery for several years, Elsa found herself drawn back to clay in 2020 and decided to fully commit to rediscovering her creative practice.
And honestly? I love stories like that. The ones where creativity patiently waits for us until we’re ready to come back to it.
What I Loved About This Conversation
One of the things that stood out most to me was how intentional Elsa is about creating pieces that feel meaningful and personal. She talked about wanting people to feel the love and care behind each handmade item—and I think that’s something all makers understand, no matter the medium.
Whether you’re quilting, painting, stitching, or throwing clay on a wheel, there’s something really special about putting your time and energy into an object someone else will treasure.
I also loved hearing about her journey back into creativity after time away from ceramics. It’s such a beautiful reminder that creativity isn’t gone just because we step away from it for a while. Sometimes it’s simply waiting for the right moment to return.
