Stash Happy - Organizing Your Embroidery Floss! - Happy Time Craftcast 15

In this episode of Happy Time Craftcast, I was thrilled to introduce Jenny White, the brilliant mind behind Lucky Jonquil. Jenny’s journey through the world of crafting is nothing short of fascinating. She started with knitting and crochet, transitioned to cross-stitch, and eventually found her niche in organizing crafting tools to make our crafting lives easier and more beautiful.

Jenny’s innovative spirit is truly inspiring. She began with pattern work but quickly realized her passion lay in creating functional and aesthetically pleasing organizational tools. You know that feeling when you buy all the crafting supplies and then have to figure out how to organize them? Jenny is the bridge between buying and using your crafting stash efficiently.

Jenny's Game-Changing Product: The Better Bobbin

One of the most exciting parts of our chat was learning about Jenny's revolutionary product: the Better Bobbin. She designed these bobbins to fit perfectly into the standard bobbin boxes you can get at any big-box craft store. Unlike the typical bobbins that don’t fit well and often let the thread ends slip out, Jenny’s bobbins stay in place, are easy to manage, and fit snugly in the box.

Jenny’s journey to becoming a manufacturer was equally inspiring. From being a stay-at-home mom to working in a clean room facility assembling thermal imaging cameras, she amassed skills that she later applied to her crafting business. Her dedication to solving common crafting problems and her commitment to quality are evident in every product she creates.

Tips for Organizing Your Craft Stash

Jenny shared some invaluable tips for organizing embroidery floss, especially for those who love both crafting and organizing (like me!). Here are a few highlights:

  1. Labeling and Storing Floss: Jenny explained how to keep your floss organized by using different types of bobbins and labeling them with fine-tip permanent markers that don't fade over time.
  2. Floss Keeps: These nifty tools are designed to fit in standard bobbin boxes and hold multiple strands of thread, keeping them neat and untangled.
  3. Using a Second Needle for Hard Surfaces: For those who embroider on hard surfaces, Jenny suggested using a second needle to hold the thread in place, making it easier to stitch without the thread slipping or knotting.

Crafting on the Go

We also talked about the joy of having portable projects. Whether it’s a crochet project on a plane ride or a small embroidery piece to take to a coffee shop, having a project that travels well is essential for any busy crafter.

My Current Project: The Tree of Life

Inspired by my mom’s birthday request, I’m creating a large-scale Tree of Life project using recycled materials. This 30"x40"" piece features a tree made entirely from coiled cardboard. It’s a labor of love and a wonderful way to repurpose materials that would otherwise go to waste. If you’d like to see the first Tree of Life I made, you can check it out on my TikTok page.  A 16" × 20" Tree of Life Art Kit is also available for purchase in our website.
