This week we’re highlighting a design that’s extremely special to us, because it’s both a memorial and a fundraiser for a local children’s hospital. The design Devon’s Heart was inspired by conversations with Kristine Jenson, who also happens to be this week’s yogi highlight. Devon was Kristine’s niece, and she was born with a rare heart defect called hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS). As a result of this defect, Devon passed away soon after she turned 3. Kristine has been a champion and fundraiser for the cardiovascular program at the Children’s Hospitals of Minnesota ever since.
Because this beautiful and touching design is part of our Compassion Collection, it’s priced $30 more than our other mats, with the additional $30 going back to the Children’s Hospital cardiovascular program. However, this additional money is well spent and will help treat or someday even prevent heart defects like the one that took Devon’s life.
The vibrant pinks and purples and reds and oranges create a beautiful background for the ghosts of butterflies that flutter across its surface. The entire mat is soft, warm and grippy — perfect for laying back and contemplating the impermanence of life and the preciousness of time.
As Kristine points out,
Every breath and every heartbeat is such a gift. Our bodies are miraculous. Yoga and gratitude meditations literally saved my life as I made my way through grief and despair. Consistent practice helps to clear out all the distractions so that you can focus within and see what really matters in life and what gifts you are supposed to share with the world. I honor Devon every day through my teachings and through my jewelry company. She was an angel here on Earth and her legacy continues.
We love and appreciate everything Kristine is doing for children she’ll never meet. We’re trying to do our part by offering $10 off this design using the promo code DEVON at checkout. Namaste.
